Four Mississippi public universities have joined a state-owned fiber optic network.  C-Spire invested more than $5 million after the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services awarded it an 8-year, $8 million contract to run the Mississippi Optical Network.

Fiber optic network graphic.2Now Alcorn (ALL-corn) State, Delta State, the Mississippi University for Women and Mississippi Valley State University have joined the state’s other four public universities, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers research center in Vicksburg and Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis on the high-speed network which allows the transmission of large amounts of data used for some projects.  C-Spire says upgrades have nearly quadrupled the network’s bandwidth and increased its reliability.
