Today’s song from Clarksdale, Mississippi, the birthplace of the blues and rock n’ roll.
Alabama dedicated The Hank Williams Memorial Lost Highway on this date in 1997. “Lonesome Homesick Blues” is Hank’s first great success. It was written by Cliff Friend and Irving Mills, and after performing it to enthusiastic crowd response on the Louisiana Hayride, Williams released it in 1949. In 2004, Williams’ version was added to the National Recording Registry.
“Lovesick Blues”
by Cliff Friend and Irving Mills
Lord I don’t know what I’ll do
All I do is sit and sigh, oh Lord
The last long
All I do is sit and sigh, oh Lord
The last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
And I thought I would cry
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
And I thought I would cry
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
And I thought I would cry
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
And I thought I would cry
She’ll do me, she’ll do you
She’s got that kind of loving
Lord I love to hear her when she, daddy
She’s got that kind of loving
Lord I love to hear her when she, daddy
She’ll do me, she’ll do you
She’s got that kind of loving
Lord I love to hear her when she
She’s got that kind of loving
Lord I love to hear her when she

Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
And I thought I would cry
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
And I thought I would cry
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
And I thought I would cry
I I, Oh Lord the last long
I I, Oh Lord the last long
And I thought I would cry
