Reds: an authentic Juke Joint
This ain’t no disco! (but there is foolin’ around!)
Red’s Lounge is an authentic down home juke joint in the Arts & Culture District of downtown Clarksdale, Mississippi. Small, funky, intimate, this is the place to hear real hot blues most every night of the week played here in the birthplace of the blues and rock and roll.

A Blues Mecca
It’s small, wonderfully funky, and 70 people is a standing room only crowd at Reds Lounge. Here, you’ll find people on a blues pilgrimage from all over the world and across the country. Who knows who you will meet at Reds, where they might be from, or who you might recognize in there?
You’ll have one thing in common with whoever you do meet at Reds, a love of real blues being played by today’s real bluesmen. “Big A” (Anthony Sherrod) is a real deal showman with a Wednesday night residency. You can find the nationally known Christone “Kingfish” Ingram playing here, and Robert Bilbo Walker, Watermelon Slim, Lucious Spiller, Mark “Mule Man” Massey and more.
Where will you sit? There’s a few coveted tables, an old hair salon chair, other chairs and stools here and there, and what’s great about all of them is you are right there next to the blues being played. (They will reach out and shake your hand!)
About Anthony Sherrod
ClarksdaleNews first met Anthony when he was a youngster in the Delta Blues Museum music education program. He was well on the way to becoming a world class bass player back then. When Buddy Guy and Koko Taylor played the grand opening of the museum at the Freight Depot next to the railroad tracks in Clarksdale’s Arts and Culture District, Buddy invited young Anthony on stage to play with him. It was as big a thrill then as is remembering it now.
Today, Big A plays guitar, leads his own band and is a bona fide blues treasure to behold. Check out this short video of Big A below:
