WROX Radio, Clarksdale, Mississippi.From WROX:

Governor Phil Bryant will sign Senate Bill 2116 into law today, giving Mississippi one of the strictest abortion lawns in the nation.  The “heartbeat bill” prohibits abortions as soon as a fetus has a detectable heartbeat…typically around six weeks into a woman’s pregnancy.  Abortions could be performed if the mother’s life is at risk.

Similar ‘heartbeat bills’ are being discussed in Georgia, Ohio and Tennessee; a federal judge recently blocked a heartbeat law from taking effect in Kentucky.  Governor Bryant signed a 15-week abortion ban into law last year; a federal judge declared that law to be unconstitutional. The state has appealed that decision, and many expect that another lawsuit will be filed against the state when this bill is signed into law.
