The Mississippi Department of Corrections is accepting applications for correctional officers and offering an immediate five percent increase in starting pay for those with a college degree or experience. Starting pay for those without a degree or experience is $2,075.27 a month; the five percent increase puts the starting pay at $2,179 monthly. Additional benefits include low-cost employee insurance, personal and medical leave, opportunities for advancement, and retirement. Correctional officers must be at least 21 years of age with a high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license and no felony or domestic violence convictions. In addition to an interview and background check, the selection process includes a math test, report writing exercise, physical agility test, polygraph and drug test.
