From WROX

During today’s public meeting Clarksdale’s mayor and commissioners heard complaints about the former “Memory Lane” banquet hall at 1604 Martin Luther King.  One year ago the planning commission recommended, and the board approved, a long list of stipulations for new owner Irwin Holmes to operate the business but yesterday resident Nora McNeal said almost none of those stipulations are being enforced.  She cited extended hours of operation, lack of security and alcohol consumption.  The board will take the matter up again at a work session on August 9th.

The commissioners approved a request from outgoing city grant writer Mac Crank for the city to fund an “old timers blues festival” in September on the MLK park stage; approved demolition of the old animal shelter building on Anderson Boulevard; and approved giving McCarty Architects $27,300 to develop a neighborhood master plan for up to 300 new affordable homes to be built in the next two years.  During a discussion on repaving portions of Lynn Avenue, ward 1 commissioner Bo Plunk stated – quote – “the county don’t do nothing for the city” although Coahoma County’s road department has offered to provide free labor if the city pays $17,000 for materials.  The board carried the matter over to gather more information about those costs.
