INDIANOLA, MS (Ben Caxton) — Checking up on a $460,000 grant the Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities got a private tour of the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale this week. Museum director Shelley Ritter conducted the private your for Jon Peede of the NEH who said he was “enthusiastic” over the permanent exhibit plans being funded the grant which will help fund new permanent exhibits and underscored the importance of raising additional funds critical to complete the project. Established in 1979 by the Carnegie Public Library Board of Trustees and re-organized as a stand-alone museum in 1999, the award-winning Delta Blues Museum is Mississippi’s oldest music museum and the nation’s first museum dedicated to the American art form known as the Blues.
